Will you help us to build a safe space for children living with HIV?

This Christmas we are appealing to our friends and supporters to make a donation, small or large, to our 'Build a Dream' appeal.

In 2017 we plan to construct a community building in the suburb of Hlaing Tharyar, which will primarily function as a multi-use space for the children we support who are living with HIV and TB. We already sponsor the schooling of forty children with HIV, but they live very challenging lives in this poverty-stricken suburb of Myanmar's capital. Many are from single-parent families, and outside of school hours work hard to support their parent: selling charcoal, washing clothes for wealthier neighbours, or picking rubbish from the sewers next to which their makeshift homes are built.

Khai, age 8, contracted HIV from an infected blood transfusion at birth; her mother did not survive. She lives with her father, who has been out of work for many months, acting as a housekeeper and help to him.

Aung Thuya, age 11, contracted HIV from his mother, whose father - a migrant worker in Malaysia - infected her. Up until now, he has never attended school and is severely malnourished.

Now that we are sending these kids to school, we know that they love studying and making new friends, but have no access to extra-curricular activities, sports, or creative arts at all.

Khai, Aung Thuya, and so many other children deserve to have a warm, welcoming, fun place where they can enjoy their childhood. There they will benefit from the counselling, education and nutrition service that we already supply through our Healthy Living Helping Society HIV programme. Your support will make a direct difference to their lives, and to the many more children that we plan to help.

THANK YOU.
